FAQs

Where is your jewellery made?

All my pieces are handmade in the UK, in my workshop in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside.

How do you make your jewellery?

My jewellery is woven or crocheted by hand, from lengths of sterling silver with additional sterling/fine silver/gold elements made from precious metal clay or sheet, using traditional silversmithing techniques. As each item is individually handmade (not cast) there will be some natural variations between two items of the same design. This means that every item is truly unique and individual.

Your prices seem higher than in high street retailers - why is that?

My prices reflect the fact that every item is individually handmade whether it is one of my "stock" items or a bespoke piece.  Many high street retailers sell mass-produced, cast items so they are able to produce them a lot more cheaply.  By buying a handmade item from Woven Art Jewellery you know you are not only buying a unique item that has been handmade with love and attention to detail, but you are also supporting a small business and helping to keep the jewellery-making trade alive.

What materials do you use?

Sterling silver, fine silver, precious and semi precious gemstones. In some of my hair barrettes I incorporate base metal French barrette clips (as these are much stronger than sterling silver). I also add solid gold accents to some of my jewellery. If you would like any of my items to be made completely in gold instead of silver, please contact me for a quote.

Do any items contain nickel?

No - even the metal French barrette clips I use in some of my hair jewellery items are nickel (and lead) free.

I’ve seen a bracelet I love but it’s not the right size for me – can you make it for me in a different size?

Definitely!  Any of my items can be made in any size, to ensure a perfect fit especially for you.

I have a special anniversary coming up and would like something really unique made for my partner – is this something you could do?

Yes, bespoke items are a speciality - whether that's just adding a special touch to one of my existing designs (such as a favourite gemstone or an engraved message) or coming up with a completely unique design especially for your partner. If you already have a budget and an idea of what you'd like, or just need some advice about commissioning a special piece, please get in touch.

What are your delivery lead times?

In stock items can usually be shipped within 2 days. Made to order or custom pieces usually take approximately 4 weeks from when the order is placed but if you need something urgently I will always do my best to help.

How do you ship your jewellery?

UK orders are sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery (guaranteed to arrive by 1pm the day after posting).  International orders are sent via Royal Mail's International Tracked and Signed service (this can take from 5 to 15 working days to arrive, depending on location). Both services require a signature.

If you would like something sent by a different method please ask.

Do you supply outside of the UK?

Yes I pretty much ship worldwide, barring any countries that may have restrictions in place for shipping jewellery.

Where do you sell your jewellery?

I sell online on Etsy, The British Craft House and through my own website.  I also have some local UK retail stockists - please ask for details if you'd like to know more.  I sometimes exhibit at UK craft shows and artist and makers shows - please keep checking my website for any upcoming events.

Are your items hallmarked?

Yes. In the UK it is illegal to sell or describe any item as silver if it is not hallmarked by one of the UK Assay Offices. Silver items are only exempt from hallmarking if they weigh under 7.8g. A hallmark is made up of three compulsory symbols:-

1. The Sponsor’s or Maker’s Mark.

2. Metal and fineness (purity) Mark - 925 for sterling silver and 999 for fine silver.

3. Assay Office Mark - mine have the castle, which is the mark for the Edinburgh Assay Office.

How are your items packaged?

Every item of jewellery is supplied in a jewellery gift box, tied with a purple ribbon and presented in a gift bag (either a purple chiffon bag or a silver gift bag for men's items). This is then wrapped in protective packaging and sealed inside a padded envelope, to ensure the item arrives in perfect condition.

Can I add a gift message to my item?

Yes I can add a gift tag with your own special message and can even send the gift direct to the recipient if required.

I'd like to buy a special piece of jewellery as a birthday present but not really sure what my partner would like - what would you suggest?

Why not give one of my beautiful gift vouchers instead? Gift vouchers can be used as full or part payment for any item (stock or bespoke), and are available for any value from £20 upwards. This means your partner can choose exactly what he or she would like! Please get in touch to find out more.
